About the Event: This walk will be a fantastic opportunity to learn about the diverse eucalypt species that thrive in the Brisbane area. Prof. Fensham, a distinguished botanist with extensive experience in Queensland flora, will share insights from his extensive research and his new book, ACE Guide to Eucalypts.

About Prof. Rod Fensham: Rod Fensham is a professional botanist with a wealth of experience in the ecology and conservation of Queensland’s flora. During the pandemic, Rod embarked on a personal project to deepen his knowledge of the bushlands in his home city, which led to the creation of the ACE Guide to Eucalypts Brisbane.

The ACE Guide to Eucalypts: This user-friendly guide features life-size images of leaves, buds, and fruits for all 37 eucalypt species found around Brisbane, including Angophora, Corymbia, and Eucalyptus. It also provides information on koala preferences and a comprehensive map of Brisbane's bushlands. Unique to this guide are the Aboriginal names and uses of the eucalypts, reflecting Rod’s deep engagement with Indigenous knowledge.

The book is dedicated to Aboriginal elder John Long, who taught Rod how to find and eat Jooberah, the larvae of the world’s largest moth.

We look forward to seeing you there!
